约翰·巴里为凯文·科斯特纳首部电影作品《与狼共舞》制作的影视原声专辑。该专辑是约翰·巴里创作生涯中最长的一部配乐作品，结构上也最为复杂，主要有三大主题旋律——“约翰·邓巴主题”“两只袜子与狼主题”和“爱的主题”三个主题彼此之间相辅相成、刚柔并济。用口琴演奏的“约翰·邓巴主题”描绘出空旷的草原上，影片主人公寂寥的身影。《与狼共舞》中采用了交响乐队的庞大演奏，音乐与画面使用了大量的音画平行的形式。音乐的基本形态由长气息的乐节或乐句所构成。乐节和乐句之间紧密相连，铺满了整个电影。
