This is the third lecture in a first-year programming course that I am teaching at the University of Toronto, delivered on January 14, 2022. In this lecture, we introduced four basic types in C, including integer, floating-point, character, and boolean types. We introduced literal constants in all of these basic types, and how these constants can be used to initialize variables declared using these types. We also talked about rules for naming these variables (identifiers), as well as common practices as good coding style. Finally, we summarized the usage of scanf() and printf(), and talked about the meaning of `&' in scanf().
