PLACENTA – MOVIE 4: Human placenta, w40, vessels and cytotrophoblast layer in 3D.
The placenta is a large organ in the woman’s uterus during pregnancy, which provides oxygen and nutrients to the embryo/foetus and removes waste products from the baby’s blood. These videos reveal some details about the fine structure of human placenta in three-dimension, using the cytotrophoblast marker PEG10 as well as the immunomarker CD34, which depicts the blood vessels inside the organ.
METHOD: iDISCO+ volume immunostaining and clearing
TISSUE: Human placenta, w40, normal delivery time, at the end of pregnancy.
ANTIBODIES: PEG10 (green); CD34 (red)
MOVIE DESCRIPTION: Same as ‘Placenta MOVIE 3’ but now in 3D. Both the cytotrophoblast and the blood vessels are already partially atrophied, compared to w19 (Placenta MOVIE 2).
