PLACENTA – MOVIE 1: 2D going through: w19 placenta optical layers; vessels and cytotrophoblast layer.
The placenta is a large organ in the woman’s uterus during pregnancy, which provides oxygen and nutrients to the embryo/foetus and removes waste products from the baby’s blood. These videos reveal some details about the fine structure of human placenta in three-dimension, using the cytotrophoblast marker PEG10 as well as the immunomarker CD34, which depicts the blood vessels inside the organ.

MOVIE DESCRIPTION: 2D going through: w19 placenta as serial of optical slices. PEG10 (green in the movies) is mainly the marker of cytotrophoblast. CD34 (red in the movies) depicts the endothelium of blood vessels.
