This is the 14th lecture in a first-year programming course that I am teaching at the University of Toronto, delivered on February 9, 2022.
In this lecture, we introduced, more formally, the scope of variables in the C language. We also presented a strong case against the use of global variables, and showed where these global variables are stored in the virtual address space when a C program runs. In the second half of the lecture, we introduced how functions can be best used to help us thinking about how the Goldbach conjecture problem can be solved. Our implementation that solves the Goldbach conjecture problem may not be the shortest in the world, but it is easy to develop and easy to read.
