Writing task-3

01、Once, when I was on holiday by the seaside, I wanted to see if I could manage to swim across the bay. It didn't look far and at first the sea was very calm. Things began to go wrong when I noticed the sky was growing darker. I realized a storm was blowing in. I was a good swimmer and had won a few medals at school swimming galas, but I was beginning to realize this swim might be more than I could handle and it was not going to get any easier if the seas got rough. But that, of course, is exactly what happened as the wind increased and the rain lashed down. I was beginning to feel very cold and my muscles were starting to hurt. I could even feel a current moving me further out to sea. I was beginning to despair. I did not think I could cope with so many problems all at once. I was making less and less progress. Staying afloat was challenging enough. Just then I thought I heard a cry. I made a great effort and tried to swim in its direction. Yes, it was a human voice. For a moment the impossible became possible and I put all my strength into swimming alongside a small boat. Soon arms were reaching out to help me and pulling me over the side. I was safe. Half an hour later I was on shore, wrapped in a blanket, drinking hot soup and feeling very grateful and very, very stupid. Only total idiots start swimming a long way in unknown conditions and with no one with them.

Exercise-3

Exercise-4

01、China began in 2002 to independently design and build its first manned deep-sea submersible, Jiaolong, to promote the development of China's deep-sea vehicle technology and provide important high-tech equipment for the investigation and scientific research of deep-sea resources. In July 2012, Jiaolong manned by two oceanauts descended to a depth of 7,062 m in the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific Ocean, setting a record for a Chinese manned deep-sea submersible. Such a depth also means China's ability to reach over 99.8 per cent of the seabed on earth. The successful development of Jiaolong is of great significance for China in the exploration and utilization of deep-sea resources.
