Describe a town or city where you would like to live in the future
You should say:
Where this place is
How you know this city
Why this city is famous
And explain why you like to go there
1)Where this place is
2)How you know this city
3)Why this city is famous
4)And explain why you like to go there
I’d like to live in Shanghai in the future, situated on the east of China. Shanghai is oneof the big four metropolises and widely
acknowledged as an economy powerhouse in our country.
Shanghai is symbolized for its hospitable residents. This metropolitan offers its citizens various opportunities and jobs. Everyone almost devotes himself or herself in accomplishing their work, so the high pace of living is the main theme of this city. What’s more, as a dynamic and cosmopolitan city, Shanghai welcomes people from diverse cultural backgrounds with a generous attitude.
Frankly speaking, I just got two chances to visit Shanghai, and it is such a magnificent city that I almost lost my way every time I went there. Lucky for me, Shanghai has a well-developed transportation system, so it is quite convenient to travel from one place of tourist attraction to another.
Shanghai has many grand shopping malls, where you can find almost everything you want, from movie theatres to luxury brand stores, from Starbucks to high profile Chinese seafood restaurant. During my stay in Shanghai, I visited East Nanjing Road, which combined features of China’s society in 1800s and in modern times together. It was both unique and fancy, for the views reminded me of what the city had, a long, rich history and a prosperous, thriving growth.

1)Why do more and more people live in the city?
Many causes lead to an increasing number of people settling down in the city. First of all, the living standard tends to be much higher because residents can have an easier access to the advanced healthcare system and well-equipped hospitals. Besides, it is more likely for people to find favourable employment in big cities, in which a large number of multinational businesses would set up their local branches.
2)How does this affect the environment and nature?
The increasing urban population density leads to a heavier reliance on fossil fuels because many residents choose to commute by private vehicles, which has a negative impacts on our environment. In addition, in order to accommodate the expanding urban population, the local government has no choice but to use more public land to build apartments, resulting in fewer green spaces in the city. Moreover, it is likely for people to grab natural resources from the countryside and dump large quantities of waste, which is unfair and harmful.
3)What are some factors that attract people to settle down in certain places?
The living conditions, the environment, the educational resources, the healthcare system and the public transportation network. I think these are some important factors a person usually takes into consideration. To put it in another way, our fundamental needs should be satisfied, including feeding and living. On top of that, when people choose a place to settle down, he’ll decide whether there is potential development for personal growth, whether it is possible to lead a promising, or even an affluent life.
4)Is there a way to balance city and nature?
I believe there are several approaches to strike a balance between the city and the nature. First of all, local administration should make more efficient use of natural resources, including fossil fuels and renewable energy, other kinds of materials, water and land. A sustainable development is a must if we want to avoid the risk of excessive exploitation and resource exhaustion. On the other hand, city planning should be aimed at building a greener city. For example, a mix of open spaces, parks or even farms can be built within residential communities to make the city surrounded by leafy suburbs.
