The data used to redevelop the Iron Fist was based on STC fragments recovered from the forge world Porphetus before that world was lost to a tyranid invasion. Some Adeptus Mechanicus military commanders were making use of the Iron Fist in late M41 despite the vehicle not yet being sanctioned for widespread deployment.

The Iron Fist is based on a modified, open-topped variant of the Rhino chassis. Its primary armament is a quad-heavy bolter battery. In addition, the vehicle was equipped with refractor generators, rendering it near-immune to small arms fire.
