Masali is an arid Desert World converted to an Agri World, and part of the stellar realm of Ultramar in the Ultima Segmentum.

Overview 概述

Like its sister planets Quintarn and Tarentus (known collectively as the "Three Planets" of Ultramar), it is covered in vast domed horticultural cities and water traps to capture the water needed to grow vast quantities of food. The food produced by these planets is exported around the galaxy, and also used to support the Ultramarines in their campaigns.

History 历史

The Three Planets were each invaded by Ork scavengers just after the Battle of Macragge and Marneus Calgar led the Ultramarines to reconquer them.

It once came under attack by a large force of Eldar, who began systematically killing every Human they came across. It wasn't until the Ultramarines' Force Commander Sicarius arrived with a taskforce that the massacre was ended. Sicarius's force surrounded the rampaging Eldar and destroyed them all, showing them the same mercy they had shown Masali's population.

Masali, like many of the worlds in Ultramar, suffered from recurrent resurgences of Tyranids in the wake of Hive Fleet Behemoth's destruction in the First Tyrannic War.

During the Plague Wars, Masali was attacked by the Tainted Sons vectorium, led by Gulgoth the Afflictor.

Geography 地理

Unusually for agri-worlds, Masali and its sister planets were originally covered in rocky desert continents. Crops were typically grown within massive agri-fortresses, massive domed complexes of combining farms and cities, with habitation and other facilities for the population.

The agri-fortresses included Diomedes, Mortenghol, and Cadropolis - the planet's capital hive city, surrounded by concentric fortification rings and situated in a valley.

During calamity of the Noctis Aeterna, Masali was slightly displaced from its orbital track due to empyric forces. This resulted in huge storms that destroyed much of the planet's civilisation, leading to an evacuation of the surviving population.

In the wake of the gravitic upheaval, Masali was left strangely fertile. As the evacuated populace returned, it became apparent that the crops miraculously somehow spread from out of the ruined agri-domes and covered the entire surface of the planet. Masali soon became an even larger exporter of foodstuffs to Ultramar than before.

However, a crop disease caused by Nurgle spread from the northern pole, rapidly aging crops until they became rotten, bursting into clouds of flies. Eventually, these flies formed a vortex portal into the warp, beginning a Death Guard invasion on the planet.

In Fanatic material, published in The Citadel Journal 41, pg. 29, it was a Force Commander Sewell who managed to destroy the Eldar forces. He was changed to Sicarius in later, official publications.
