This is a holiday animated special produced by Hanna-Barbera, which premiered on NBC on December 18, 1979.
The story takes place on Christmas Eve. Casper (the friendly ghost) and his friend Hairy Scarey go out looking for a new home because their residence is about to be demolished. Meanwhile, Yogi Bear, Boo-Boo, Huckleberry Hound, and other Hanna-Barbera characters, having gotten lost, stumble into their house and start decorating and cleaning for the holiday. After Casper returns, he has a great time with his new friends. Hairy Scarey initially tries to cause trouble but is eventually persuaded. The story ends with Santa Claus turning the house into "Hairy's Haunting Lodge."
It is worth noting that the copyright for the character Casper has always belonged to Harvey Comics. This special represented a rare copyright collaboration between Hanna-Barbera and Harvey Entertainment.
Casper, along with his friend Hairy Scarey, appears in the same story alongside Hanna-Barbera stars such as Yogi Bear, Boo-Boo, Huckleberry Hound, and Snagglepuss. This "crossover" lineup was unprecedented at the time and remains unique.
The voice cast for the special nearly assembled Hanna-Barbera's regular team from that era: Daws Butler voiced multiple characters including Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, and Snagglepuss; Don Messick voiced Boo-Boo; and John Stephenson voiced Hairy Scarey and Doggie Daddy.
The special's opening credits listed William Hanna and Joseph Barbera as executive producers, with Alex Lovy as producer and Carl Urbano as director.
The special's theme song, "Comin' Up Christmas Time," was so popular that it was directly reused the following year (1980) in "Yogi's First Christmas."
