The Hohenfriedberger March is a famous Prussian military march. Its name derives from the Battle of Hohenfriedberg, which was won by Frederick the Great in 1745. It is said to have been composed by Frederick II himself, but there is no definitive conclusion in historical circles; the melody was adapted from an earlier ancient march. At the time of its creation, the piece was purely instrumental; lyrics were added nearly a century later. This march is a classic marching tune of the Prussian army and belongs to the tradition of German historical music.
